Iran: Sugar Cane Factory workers’ strike enters its third weekNCRI- Into their third week of strike, workers at the Sugar Cane Factory of Haft Tappeh marched along with their families towards the main shopping center in Shoosh, southwest Iran, following a gathering outside the governor's office on May 18, 2008.

4000 striking workers with their families and children chanted "Good living conditions are our inalienable right," "Monthly salary is our inalienable right," and "Workers die but do not accept humiliation.”

The Workers who were determined to block Shoosh-Dezful highway were attacked by the State Security Forces (SSF) — mullahs' suppressive police — but the workers succeeded eventually.

Upon the governor's order, the SSF charged into the marching workers by driving their vehicles into the crowd in addition to sending their foot agents to suppress protesters. A number of workers were seriously injured in this brutal attack.

Unable to deal with this situation and respond to workers' just and legitimate demands, the clerical regime had to resort to repressive measures and detain six representatives of worker.

The Iranian Resistance calls on all labor organizations, unions and in particular the International Labor Organization (ILO) to support the Iranian workers' just demands and condemn the suppressive anti-labor policies of the clerical regime.
