Iran: Striking workers blocked Ahwaz-Andimeshk highway

NCRI – Haft-Tapeh Sugar Cane Factory workers and their families blocked the major highway connecting Khuzestan Province to the rest of the country.  They were protesting to their living conditions.

The striking workers of Haft-Tapeh have walked out since last April. Together with their children they were chanting, "We are Haft-Tapeh workers, we are hungry," "Monthly pay is our inalienable right" and "Having a decent life is our right."

The workers have been on strike in protest to their unpaid salaries and have not received their pay for over three months. The workers are facing a great difficulty with their jobs and their families are living in extreme poverty.

The State Security Forces (SSF) — mullahs' suppressive police — cordoned the protesters with water cannons and other anti-riot gears.

Despite a government ban on forming labor unions, over 3,000 Sugar Cane Factory workers gathered outside the main management building on Monday to elect their representatives on a secret ballot for the first labor syndicate of the factory.

The Iranian Resistance calls on labor organizations and unions and the International Labor Organization (ILO) in particular to condemn the anti-labor policies of the clerical regime and suppression of the workers in Iran.
