Iran regime jailed three students despite court ruling

NCRI -The state-run dailies reported on April 15 that three students from Tehran's Amir Kabir University (Polytechnic) were given prison terms despite ruling by the clerical court in December 2007.

Alireza Jamshidi, the clerical regime's Judiciary spokesman, announced their new sentences as; "Majid Tavakoli to 30 months, Ahmad Qasaban to 26 months and Ehsan Mansouri to 22 months."

The families of the students were expecting their release after the regime's general court acquitted them due to lack of evidence. The regime refused to release them despite payment of about 89,000 USD towards their bail.

Following widespread protests by students in various universities against their detention and illegal imprisonment, the regime was forced to retreat and withdrew its charges last autumn. They were charged with insulting the regime's leaders.

Saiid Mortazavi, Tehran's notorious prosecutor, responded then to protests by the students’ families complaining against mistreatment and torture of their loved ones and said, "I determine who was tortured and who was not. You have not experienced torture."

The Iranian Resistance calls on all international human rights organizations and student unions to support student protests in Iran and take urgent actions to help these students freed.
