In response to remarks by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during a televised debate on June 3, which exposed major embezzlements by Rafsanjani and his family as well as previous governments, Rafsanjani said that all the accusations by Ahmadinejad concern times when the government was guided by Khomeini or Khamenei himself as the leader of the regime.
Rafsanjani said that Ahmadinejad’s remarks were fueled by an earlier speech by Khamenei in Mashhad, northeast Iran. He accused Ahmadinejad of making those charges in order to overshadow the disappearance of one billion dollars from his government and thousands of other cases of transgressions in the handling of the country’s budget.
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, described the revelations made during the Ahmadinejad-Moussavi debate as a new turning point in the clerical regime’s escalating factional feuding and a crushing blow to the regime in its entirety. She reiterated that whoever becomes the next president of the regime would suffer from the scathing and broad consequences of these revelations.
Mrs. Rajavi emphasized that the debates taking place during the mullahs’ sham elections only expose a small part of the crisis, decadence and corruption within the regime, its plunder of the nation’s wealth and the mullahs’ role in terrorism.
