At around 4:00 p.m. today, Sunday, October 9, a large group of suppressive forces were stationed around Lakan Prison in Rasht (the capital of the northern province of Gilan). The sound of gunfire could be heard from the prison.
A part of the attacking forces was brought in from the city of Astara. Following the shooting, a section of the prison caught fire, and thick smoke can be seen from a distance. The roads leading to the prison are closed and it is impossible to approach it from several kilometers away.
In recent days, the political prisoners of Lakan have supported the general uprising, which has angered the regime and has prompted them to retaliate against the protesters.
The Iranian Resistance calls on the United Nations and relevant bodies, especially the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Human Rights Council, to take immediate action to save the lives of Lakan prisoners, and once again emphasizes on the need to form an international mission to inspect Iran’s prisons and meet with the prisoners, especially the political prisoners.
