Iran: On 28th Day of Uprising, Demonstrations, Clashes, Strikes Continue

On the evening of Thursday, October 13, the 28th day of the nationwide uprising, nightly demonstrations erupted in Tehran and other cities such as Kermanshah, Sanandaj, Mahabad, Saqqez, Bukan, Fuladshahr, Shahin-Shahr, Isfahan, Golshahr in Karaj, Ilam, Arak. Protesters chanted, “Death to Khamenei” and blocked the path of suppressive forces by lighting the fire and clashing with them in various places.

Petrochemical workers in Asaluyeh and oil refinery workers in Abadan and Bushehr continued their strikes today for the fourth day running. Since the strike started, the suppressive forces attacked the gathering of Asaluyeh workers and their dormitories and arrested more than 30 workers.

On Wednesday, the 27th day of the uprising, Tehran and at least 16 provinces, universities, and schools witnessed demonstrations and clashes with suppressive forces. Bazaar merchants went on strike in 12 cities.

In Tehran, people in different places such as Naziabad, Tehranpars, Ekbatan, Sattarkhan, Narmak, Vali-e Asr, Shariati, Taleghani, Kargar, Sadeghieh, Palestine, Lalezar, Azadi Square, Ferdows Boulevard, Fallah, Imamzadeh Hassan, Enghelab, Molvi, Khayyam, Alauddin, and Kashani shopping mall, Zafar, Kaj, and Jeyhoon staged protests and clashed with suppressive forces.

Brave women stood up against the special riot units in Vali-e Asr street. People of Tehranpars and Ekbatan township were chanting “This year, is a year of sacrifice, Seyyed Ali (Khamenei) will be overthrown.” In Naziabad, the repressive forces were forced to flee when faced with the demonstrators, and local residents threw rocks at the motorcycle-riding agents from their windows. Plainclothes agents arrested several demonstrators in some areas of Tehran.

Various cities around the country, including Mashhad, Isfahan, Ardakan, Najaf Abad, Shahin-Shahr, Yazd, Rasht, Gorgan, Babol, Sari, Nowshahr, Lahijan, Gonbadkavus, Kermanshah, Sanandaj, Baneh, Mahabad, Marivan, Urmia, Divandareh, Sarpol Zahab, Piranshahr, Bukan, Dehgolan, Saqqez, Ilam, Kerman, Bandar Abbas, Bushehr, Qeshm, Karaj, Golshahr, Aligudarz, Neyriz, Dehdasht, Arak, Shiraz, Ardabil, Fardis in Karaj, Baharestan in Isfahan, Shahr-e Ray, Qeshm, Galugah, Asaluyeh, and Izeh witnessed strikes, demonstrations, and clashes with suppressive agents.

In Karaj, the young people overturned a police car. In Isfahan’s Baharestan, people forced the suppressive forces to flee. In Ilam, the suppressive forces were beaten and forced to flee. In Shiraz, plainclothes agents attacked people and used pepper spray inside a passenger bus.

In Sanandaj and Saqqez and other cities in Kurdistan protesters resisted the suppressive forces’ attack by chanting “Death to the dictator” and “Death to Khamenei”, and the youth took control of some streets by lighting fires.

Some areas of Kermanshah, such as Dowlat Abad and 6th of Bahman township, were under people’s control for a few hours. Three young protesters were shot dead by the agents. Fars News Agency, affiliated with the IRGC, reported today that: “During the clashes between the State Security Force and armed criminals in Kermanshah, five SSF agents were wounded and one of them is in critical condition.”

According to the state-run daily Entekhab, on October 13, in a meeting with the judges, Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje’i, the regime’s Judiciary Chief, called for harsh sentences for those arrested during the uprising and said, “Unnecessary compassion and weak sentences for the main elements [behind the uprising] are an injustice to the people and the future.”

Some school principals who refused to cooperate with the regime in identifying and arresting student activists have been arrested.
