Iran: Mullahs’ regime beefs up security in vicinity of Tehran Friday prayers

National Council of Resistance of IranNationwide uprising in Iran – Statement 102

NCRI – Since the morning, the mullahs’ regime heightened security and deployed its suppressive security forces in Azadi, Enghelab, Qods, Vesal-e Shirazi, and 16-Azar streets as well as in Keshavarz Boulevard and other streets leading to Enghelab Street and Enghelab Square. Security forces, anti-riot forces and other suppressive organs of the regime are currently patrolling all streets leading to Tehran University.

The heightened security measures which have overshadowed this week’s Friday prayers have been unsuccessful in preventing protestors from turning up. Since the morning, the intelligence ministry has in a coordinated measure cut off mobile phone networks in the area, and for the first time a security shadow looms over the Friday prayers. Sirens of police vehicles, ambulances and fire engines can be heard in streets near Tehran University.

There has been a large reduction today in the number of buses which normally take people to the Friday prayers site.
