NCRI – In the latest wave of arrests following the Ashura uprising (December 27), the Iranian regime's agents of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security arrested Asghar Mahmoudian and his wife Nahid in a raid on their house. Mr. Mahmoudian is a former political prisoner jailed twice before in 1980s and 90s for total of 11 years.

His brother, Amir Mahmoudian, was executed in 1984 at the age of 28 in the city of Rasht, northern Iran.

Widespread arrests of former political prisoners are carried out in fear of spreading nationwide uprising, aimed to create an atmosphere of intimidation and terror in the country.

The Iranian Resistance calls on all human rights organizations, in particular the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, UN working group on arbitrary detentions and Special Rapporteur on torture to take urgent and binding measures for immediate release of all political prisoners including Mahmoudian family.
