Iran: Families of political prisoner protest across from Majlis

N ationwide uprising – Statement 193

NCRI – A group of members of families of political prisoners, and those killed or missing during recent nationwide uprisings staged a rally across from Majlis (mullahs’ parliament) holding portraits of their loved ones.

In a statement they demanded the unconditional release of the political prisoners, investigation on the state of those missing, public trial of those responsible for the killing of detained protesters, transparent answers to inquiries by families and creation of impartial, competent and popular bodies to deal with families’ complaints.

The suppressive State Security Forces and plainclothes agents surrounded the participants to prevent public from joining them. Agents of the mullahs’ Ministry of Intelligence and Security arrested a number of passersby who tried to take photos of the event by their mobiles. They were then transferred to unknown locations. This is while the agents were photographing all the participants to later harass them.

Over the past five months, elderly parents and relatives of political prisoners and martyrs of recent uprisings have been gathering outside various organs of the clerical regime such as the office’s Prosecutor General and public prosecutor, mullahs’ revolutionary courts and Evin prison to protest against arbitrary arrests and torture of their detained children and relatives. They have also been protesting against heavy sentences on detainees and the judicial authorities’ refusal to allow lawyers to visit them or respond to their on going enquiries. Similar protests have been going on in Laleh park of Tehran.
