Despite Two Extensions, Voter Turnout Remains Low in Election’s Final Hours in Iran

Despite two extensions of the voting deadline until 10 PM and the regime’s efforts and tricks to draw people to the polling stations, according to the reports of the PMOI (People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran) Social Headquarters inside Iran, from 279 cities in 31 provinces by 8:30 PM, the mullahs’ election show has faced a decisive boycott by the people.

In the final remaining hours, the regime resorted to various tricks to bring people to the ballot boxes. In Tehran, it sent text messages asking citizens to vote. In many villages in Hamadan, villagers were threatened that if they did not vote for Jalili, their agricultural loans, fertilizers, and water supply would be cut off.

In Tehran, citizens’ gasoline quotas were deposited simultaneously with the election show, so people would come out to refuel and this could be portrayed as public participation in the elections.

In Tehran, at the polling stations of Kousha High School on Honar Street, Moslem Jonoubi, Shahed High School, Mojtahedi School on Nasr Street, and Al-Nabi Mosque on Abu Dhar Boulevard, no voters were seen for extended hours.

In Gorgan, the situation at several polling stations on Friday evening was as follows: at Hosseiniyeh Seyyed al-Shohada, there were no voters. At Abā Abdellāh Mosque, there were 2 voters; at Imam Reza Mosque, Hejrat Mosque, the vocational high school, and the municipal park library, there were 3 voters each; at Khadijeh School in Qal’eh Hasan, there were 4 voters; at Qods Razavi Mosque, Alavi School in Sarkhajeh, and the Vahdat Sports Hall, there were 5 voters; at Meydan Mosque, there were 6 voters, and at Meydan Abbas Ali Mosque, there were 7 voters. In Varamin, the number of voters at Sajjad Mosque, Gol Tappeh, Salar housing complex, Mostafa Khomeini School, and Imam Hassan Mosque the number of voters did not exceed five.

In Bushehr, at the polling stations of Noor Mosque, Amir al-Momenin Mosque, and Imam Hussein Mosque, and in Arak, at Basij Samen, Ayandeh High School, Imam Hussein Ideological-Political Center, and Fajr High School polling stations, no one came to vote in the afternoon hours. In Karaj, at the polling station on Derakhti Street, between 5 and 7 PM, only three people came to vote. In Isfahan, there were no voters at the Mahdiyeh Amirkabir polling station, and at Ferdows School, the governorship, and Ershad Mosque, there was only one voter each.

In Kermanshah, at the Zahra High School polling station, 6 people voted, and at the National Bank polling station, 13 people voted, while no one showed up to vote at the Dolat Abad and Amir al-Momenin Mosque polling stations. In Zahedan, worshippers passed by the polling centers indifferently after the prayers, and no one was willing to vote.
