Iran: Demonstrations and widespread clashes in central Tehran square

Tehran, Dec. 24, 2009NCRI – According to reports by the Social Headquarters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) inside the country, Thursday December 24th demonstrations of the people of Tehran has spread to other central parts of the city including Ferdowsi square, Manouchehri street, Babe Homayoun and City Park (Parke Shahr), and people in groups of few hundreds have protested in the streets of these areas.

NCRI – According to reports by the Social Headquarters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) inside the country, Thursday December 24th demonstrations of the people of Tehran has spread to other central parts of the city including Ferdowsi square, Manouchehri street, Babe Homayoun and City Park (Parke Shahr), and people in groups of few hundreds have protested in the streets of these areas.

In Toupkhaneh Square large scale clashes between people and suppressive forces continue. Bassijis and motorcyclist plainclothes attack people even on the sidewalks. The regime agents beat people even elderly mothers by batons and chains. People are confronting brutal attack by Bassijis and paid thugs of the regime by chanting "Down with Khamenei," "Message of Hossein's blood – death to tyranny" and "Khamenei has become the Yazid – Yazid will be overthrown."

According to eyewitnesses, elderly mothers courageously confronted the agents despite baton blows and were able to rescue few youths from their hands.

The regime agents arrest those who carry cameras in order to prevent the spread of news about this protest.
