Iran Protest-No. 34

Marking the 18th night of Iran’s nationwide uprising and continuing protests by university students throughout Monday, confrontations and protests continued in many districts of the capital Tehran, including in Punak, Amirabad North, Ashrafi Isfahani, Tajrish, ShahrAra, and Shahryar.

In a hit-and-run night protest in Tehran, rebellious youths chanted: “Death to Khamenei!” and “Death to the dictator!” In Tajrish, people responded to the threats made by regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei during his speech earlier on Monday about the uprising. The protesters chanted: “Shame on the disgraced leader!” In Ashrafi Esfahani Street, people continued to demonstrate at night. In the districts of Ekbatan, Shahrara, North Amirabad, and Punak, people chanted from their houses, “Death to Khamenei!” and “Death to the dictator!” In Ekbatan, where an agent chanted from his house “Death to Monafeq (a pejorative term the regime uses to describe the MEK), locals overwhelmingly responded: “Death to Khamenei! Death to the IRGC!” referring to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards.

In Sanandaj, a city in western Iran, demonstrators set fire to the regime’s banners at the intersection of Sharif Abad and Sixth Bahman. People and rebellious youth demonstrated in the Nayser neighborhood and clashed with motorcycle-riding security units. In Shiraz, a city in south-central Iran, night demonstrations continued and people in traffic on Chamran Street were honking in response to a heavy presence of suppressive forces.

On Monday, in addition to widespread protests in dozens of Iranian universities, students of Isfahan University set fire to the exhibition of IRGC paramilitary Basiji agents at the campus entrance. In the city of Shahriar, west of Tehran, female students protested and chanted: “So many years of crimes! Death to the mullahs’ regime!” and “Have no fear, we are all together!” Female students in a school in Karaj, a city west of Tehran, expelled the director of education from the school while chanting “Shame on you!”

Also, the funeral ceremony of one of the uprising martyrs, Ms. Nika Shakrami, in the city of Khorramabad in western Iran turned into an anti-regime demonstration with the slogan “Death to the dictator!” The suppressive forces desperately tried to stop the protest by opening fire on the people and launching tear gas.

In another development, teachers called for a general strike across the country. Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), hailed the teachers and said: “Teachers, professors, and students have risen while chanting in unison ‘Death to Khamenei!’ Their voice cannot be silenced.”
