Iran: Courageous peasants’ revolt in Isfahan and clash with Security Forces

• Five killed, including a woman, hundreds injured and over 160 arrested
• A Government Building and Three Anti-riot Police Buses Burned by Farmers

NCRI – Iranian regime’s anti-riot forces fired tear-gas and bullets at the angry farmers from the village of Khorasgan near Isfahan in order to disperse them in the evening of February 27. The attack sparked violent clashes with farmers which continued until 9:00 p.m. Women bravely accompanied men to resist the anti-riot forces.

Thus far, at least five people, including a woman, have been killed by the agents’ gunfire and hundreds injured. Four victims were injured in the eyes and lost their vision. More than 160 farmers were arrested and taken to unknown destinations by regime’s security and undercover agents. During the clashes, a government building and three security forces’ buses were set ablaze by protesters.

After a Khorasgan farmer was arrested, angry farmers began to protest in front of the police station. Fearing an attack by farmers, the regime’s forces released the arrested man. After identifying the protesters, security forces arrested many of them overnight.

These clashes follow protesting peasants’ rallies in Isfahan that have continued since February 22nd. Protesters from various regions, including Khorasgan, Varzaneh, Ziar, Gavand, and Gavkhouni, along with their families have camped in large areas and brought their agricultural machinery and tractors to the protest site. The deprived farmers of these regions are protesting the devastating policies of the mullahs that have caused Zayandeh-Roud River to dry up. According to the farmers, the mullahs’ regime has transformed the Zayandeh-Roud River into an unpaved road and has annihilated agriculture in the region.

The Iranian Resistance salutes the courageous farmers and the fallen martyrs of Isfahan and wishes a speedy recovery for the injured. It calls on the valiant people and the youth of Isfahan to assist the protesting farmers.
