Iran: Corpse of a disappeared young man handed to his family after 36 days by authorities

Alireza AzadpourNationwide uprising – Statement 157

NCRI – The intelligence agents of the clerical regime handed over the corpse of a teenage boy from Kermanshah, west of Iran, to his family 36days after his disappearance. Alireza Azadpour disappeared on July19, 2009, when he attended a protest rally against the regime. All that time, various organs of the regime refused to respond to enquiries of the family. Finally, on August23, the intelligence agents handed his corpse to his family on the condition that they would not hold a funeral ceremony. Thus, Alireza was buried in grief and silence.

The mullahs’ Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) did not even allow the family to hold the traditional ceremony on the 40th day of his death in a mosque or a public hall. It had to be held in the family’s residence with only a limited number of people.

The Iranian Resistance calls on the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances to investigate the missing persons during the popular uprising in Iran.
