NCRI – According to the Social Headquarters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), this afternoon, which marked the tenth anniversary of the July 9, 1999 uprising and the 27th day of the current nationwide uprising, most Iranian cities were the scene of popular protests. In most parts, brutal attacks on protestors by the suppressive forces led to clashes between people and the regime’s agents.

In Mashhad, despite a heavy presence of suppressive forces, some 8,000 people gathered in the Park Square and in nearby streets. Suppressive forces used guns and batons to prevent others from gathering and join the demonstration. Dozens of people, including women, were arrested. The crowd chanted “I will kill those who killed my brother”. In many streets in Mashhad, people drove with their headlights on and honked their vehicles’ horn in solidarity with the protestors.

In Mashhad, near the holy shrine of Imam Reza, people gathered in groups of several hundreds. The suppressive forces tried to keep them apart by attacking them.

In Shiraz, a large crowd marched from Daneshjou Square toward Zand Street. The suppressive forces fired tear gas at thousands of demonstrators in Mullah Sadra Street and Daneshjou Square and clashed with them.

In Sanandaj, large number of people demonstrated despite strong presence of State Security Forces and anti-riot forces.
