February 11 Uprising – Statement no. 22

NCRI – On the 31st anniversary of anti-monarchy revolution on February 11, courageous people took to the streets in various cities across Iran to show their hatred toward the clerical regime.

In Esfahan, young people hanged a large banner from a Navab Highway flyover on Wednesday evening, February 10, carrying the popular slogan “Down with Khamenei.” It was left there hanging till lunchtime Thursday and the agents of the regime could not dare to bring it down.

There were demonstrations and clashes during most of Thursday in different parts of the city. People were chanting “Down with dictator” and “down with Khamenei.” There were extensive clashes in Chaharbagh Street and local residents gave refuge to people who were being attacked by the regime’s agents riding on motorcycles in their houses. The suppressive forces and agents of the regime attacked demonstrators with chains, daggers and knives. A large number of people and youths were arrested.

In Shiraz, there were extensive demonstrations and skirmishes around the city. Many young protesters were arrested. There were 20 arrests in Modaress Boulevard alone.

In Yazd, central Iran, a large number of people gathered in Atlassi Square chanting “Down with dictator” and “down with Khamenei.” They were attacked by suppressive forces.

In Mashhad, northeast Iran, some 100 people were arrested when suppressive forces attacked demonstrators. Enghelab Square was the center for the anti-regime protest.

In Gonbad Kavous, north of Iran, people tore down portraits of Khamenei and Ahmadinejad and chanted anti-regime slogans in their protests. The suppressive forces attacked the demonstrators with batons and truncheons and fired teargas.

The government-organized ceremonies to mark the anniversary of the revolution were generally boycotted by people in most places with only very few people showing up.
