Thousands rise up in Eqlid, Iran

NCRI – The Majority of the people of Eqlid, a central Iranian city, staged a large demonstration both yesterday and today calling for dismissal of city and provincial government officials.

The demonstrations took larger magnitudes today as the city bazaar, shops, schools and various city offices were shutdown.  Youth setup fires and blocked city streets to prevent the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and other oppressive forces from entering the scene.

The angry people of Eqlid attacked a number of oppressive centers, government buildings, and banks breaking windows and inflecting damage.  Demonstration took larger dimensions at the City Center where the biggest gathering took place.  All the City offices’ windows were broken and parts of the buildings were damaged.

As the local oppressive forces were unable to control and crackdown on the expanding wave of demonstrations, the mullahs’ regime called in gangs of hooligans and anti-crowed units from nearby cities to crackdown on the uprising.  Dozens of demonstrators have been wounded and many arrested as a result of violent police attacks on the demonstrators.

There is an undeclared state-of-emergency throughout the city and IRGC personnel are preventing travelers and even employees of the service companies affiliated with government agencies to enter the city.  Nevertheless, the city is still in state of unrest and sporadic clashes are reported.

The Iranian Resistance’s President-elect, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi saluted the people of Eqlid and recognized their uprising as a symbol of unanimous rage and anger of the Iranian people toward the theocratic dictatorship that can only continue its rule by execution, torture and suppression.  Mrs. Rajavi also called on all people in Fars Province and specially the young people to rise in support of the brave people of Eqlid.  She also urged all human rights organizations and authorities to press the mullahs to release all those arrested immediately.
