23 executions in one week; international call for urgent action to save the lives of prisoners on death row

Ali Khamenei’s execution and killing machine has accelerated again after the show of presidential elections. This morning, Thursday, July 25, regime executioners hanged Kamran Sheikheh, a 40-year-old Sunni political prisoner, in Urmia prison after 15 years of imprisonment. He had been transferred from Qezelhessar prison to Mahabad prison on June 1, 2024, and to Urmia Central Prison about 15 days ago.

Kamran, along with 6 other Sunni compatriots, was arrested during the uprising in December 2009 for the death of Khamenei’s prayer leader at the Kholafa-ye Rashedin Mosque in Mahabad and severely tortured in Urmia’s Intelligence Department. In March 2016, they were sentenced to death by the criminal cleric Mohammad Moghiseh (Naserian), and in June 2018 by the criminal judge Salavati. In 2019, the clerical Supreme Court confirmed these sentences. Previously, Khosrow Besharat and Anvar Khezri were executed on May 15 and May 1, 2024, and Farhad Salimi, Davood Abdollahi, Ayoub Karimi, and Qasem Absteh were executed in Qezelhesar on January 23, January 2, 2024, and November 29 and November 5, 2023, respectively.

In the past week, executioners have put to death 23 prisoners, including four women, in the prisons of Zahedan, Adel Abad (Shiraz), Parsilon (Khorramabad), Qezelhessar, Dieselabad (Kermanshah), Qom, Birjand, Bandar Abbas, and Urmia.

The Iranian Resistance once again calls on the United Nations and its member states, as well as the European Union and its member states, to take urgent action to stop the mullahs’ killing machine and save prisoners on death row, especially political prisoners. Silence and inaction in the face of the godfather of terror and execution is a clear violation of human rights values. This regime must be expelled from the international community, its crimes referred to the UN Security Council, and its leaders brought to justice.
