Summoning of regime’s envoys by EU a positive but insufficient step

Swedish Presidency of EUResistance calls for suspension of diplomatic ties and comprehensive sanctions on Iranian regime until complete halt to suppression

Nationwide uprising in Iran – Statement 69

NCRI – The Iranian Resistance described the decision by the European Union to summon the ambassadors of the religious dictatorship ruling Iran as a positive but very insufficient step against the mullahs’ illegitimate regime and its crimes against the Iranian people.

The Iranian people’s uprising over the past three weeks, with chants of “Death to the dictator” and “Death to Khamenei” [mullahs’ Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei] has made clear the desire of Iranians for change of this medieval regime. The merciless crimes of the suppressive forces against defenseless protestors have cause international outrage. The only correct policy against this criminal regime is one of firmness by the EU.

Such a policy should comprise of suspension of diplomatic ties with the regime and imposition of comprehensive sanctions until a complete halt to the brutal suppression and free elections under UN supervision based on people’s sovereignty, not the velayat-e faqih (rule of clergy). This is the minimum expectation of the Iranian people and Europeans seeking freedom and democracy.
