Protest rallies on the anniversary of International Teachers Day

NCRI – From 9 a.m. on Thursday, teachers gathered opposite the Ministry of Education’s headquarters in Tehran. The number of participants exceeded 1,500 and increased as more teachers joined the demonstrators, at the end topping 3,500. Units of the State Security Forces (SSF) closed the entrances to the main building, preventing more people from joining the demonstrating teachers, and stopped the President of the Teachers Association from addressing the crowd.

The teachers held placards reading, "Congratulation to Iranian teachers on International Teachers Day." The demonstrators demanded the resignation of the appointed directors in the Ministry of Education.

SSF units prevented faculty staff of the Teachers Training College from joining the demonstrating teachers.

At 10 a.m. on Wednesday, more than 4,000 school teachers gathered in the northern city of Ardebil to mark International Teachers Day. The teachers held a 21-meter petition protesting their extended working hours.
