Mullahs’ regime prevented people from participating in Neda’s memorial serviceNationwide uprising in Iran – Statement 41

NCRI – On Monday, hundreds of residents of Tehran protested in Abbasabad Street as they headed towards Niloofar Mosque to attend a memorial service for Neda Salehi, a young woman who was slain on Saturday June 20 by the clerical regime’s forces. Earlier, the protestors had staged a demonstration in Rezaiha (Haft-Tir) Square.

Suppressive forces attacked the crowd in order to prevent them from reaching the mosque. However, the protestors resisted the attack and removed the blockades, rushing down various routes until they eventually reached the mosque.

The regime had also positioned members of the paramilitary Bassij Force and club-wielders in groups of seven or eight on the day before in Enghelab and Sarsebil streets to prevent protests from erupting.

Agents of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked people in Kheradmand Street, near Rezaiha Square, late on Monday to stop them from joining ongoing protests at the square. They also prevented shop owners from leaving their stores.

Starting at 20:30 local time, the police used tear gas and electric batons in Enghelab Square to disperse the protestors, while the Bassij forces opened fire on people from rooftops.
