Iranian Resistance calls to save 85-year-old political prisoner with leukemia

Gohardasht Prison, IranNCRI – The Iranian Resistance calls for saving the life of Mr. Hassan Tafah, an 85-year-old lawyer with leukemia deprived of essential medical care who is in Gohardasht Prison of Karaj on the verge of death.

The Iranian Resistance calls on all human rights organizations, international lawyers’ organs, the Working Group on arbitrary detention, the Special Rapporteur on torture, and the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran to resort to urgent action to free this elderly prisoner and to offer him urgent medical treatment.

As Mr. Tafah’s condition turned critical, the henchmen transferred him on the night of May 14 to the hospital with his hands and feet in chains. In order to aggravate pressures on and to further humiliate this elderly lawyer, the torturers chained him to his hospital bed while he was hospitalized and even during mealtime and using the bathroom refrained from removing his chains. Mr. Tafah’s protest to this anti-human and barbaric treatment resulted in returning him on Thursday, May 15, without the least medical treatment, to Hall 12 of Ward 4 of Gohardasht Prison which is but a death camp.

Mr. Hassan Tafah was an immigrant Iranian in Iraq that was returned back to Iran during regime’s war with Iraq. He who is a member of Iraq’s Federation of Lawyers and a member of the International Federation of Lawyers and Jurists, was arrested in 2008 without being involved in any political activity whatsoever. Since he refused to cooperate with the Ministry of Intelligence, he was condemned by the regime’s judiciary to fifteen years in prison and exile to Gohardasht Prison on the charge of acting against the national security and for propaganda against the system.
