Iranian Resistance calls for investigation into condition of prisoners

ncri-statement

The suppressive and criminal measures against prisoners and in particular the political prisoners are constantly on the rise. Regime’s henchmen in Gohardasht (Rajai Shahr) Prison have ratcheted up pressures on Sunni prisoners and transferred six of them since November 1 to Ward 8 of the IRGC known as the “Intelligence Ward” and placed them under interrogation and torture. Similarly, they have transferred six Sunni prisoners on the death row to the solitary confinement and are once again interrogating and persecuting them.

In another development, due to the imperfect-fuel-burn in the engine house of Ward 8 of Evin Prison, carbon monoxide has covered the whole ward causing headaches in prisoners. There is the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning causing irreparable harm to prisoners. Henchmen have done nothing yet to remedy the situation. Ward 8 is currently one of the worst wards in Evin torture place.

Meanwhile, hundreds of political and ordinary prisoners in wards 6 and 7, as well as other wards, of Zahedan Central Prison have come down with a viral disease. They have chills and fever, long coughs, severe headaches, muscle pains, and vomiting. Regime’s henchmen have done nothing to treat the patients or to stop the spread of the virus.

The Iranian Resistance calls on all international human rights agencies, especially the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN Special Rapporteur on condition of human rights in Iran, and the Rapporteur on torture, to take urgent measures to investigate the condition of prisoners and in particular political prisoners in Iran. It urges the dispatch of a commission to probe the dire condition of regime’s prisons and prisoners.
