Camp Liberty – No. 68

Iranian Resistance calls for eviction of those involved in the massacre of residents from Camp Liberty

NCRI – The Iraqi forces at Camp Liberty in Iraq continue to torture Iranian residents by preventing them from using their forklift trucks for displacement of heavy equipments and loads that caused many residents orthopedic diseases, acute pains in the limbs and backs, and irrecoverable bone injuries. The repressive measure are being imposed by two Iraqi officers who have been involved in two massacre at Camp Ahraf and has been continued since the first group of residents were transferred from Camp Ashraf on February 2012.

The Iranian Resistance calls on the United Nations and the U.S. government, that have responsibility towards safety and security of Camp Liberty residents, to adopt urgent measures to end torture and inhumane restrictions imposed on residents including depriving them of their own forklift trucks, and to remove the Iraqi officers from Camp Liberty.

Iraqi officers Sadeq Mohammed Kadhim and Haidar Azab Mashi have both been directly involved in the massacre of residents in July 2009 and April 2011 which resulted in 50 residents getting killed and over 1100 injured. They are both under investigation by the National Court of Spain for crimes against international community.

For resolving the issue of using forklift trucks, extensive contacts and correspondences were made with Martin Kobber and his UNAMI office in Baghdad by the residents, their representatives in Ashraf and Camp Liberty and outside Iraq but did not lead to any action.

Iraqi government initially had agreed to the transfer of two forklift trucks from Ashraf to Camp Liberty on 28 November 2012. But although it had been agreed that the two forklifts be constantly at the disposal of residents, Sadeq Mohammed Kadhim has ordered Iraqi forces not to give the forklifts to residents except for very limited hours on a few days.

On Saturday, January 19, in a provocative act Captain Haidar Azab Mashi moved one of the two forklifts to the Iraqi company headquarters and removed its battery, and used it for a generator recently set up at location were Iraqi intelligence is stationed.
