Iran: Two Dissidents Executed in Khorramabad

NCRI logoKhamenei’s henchmen committed a new crime and executed two dissidents in Lorestan. The regime’s judiciary in Lorestan announced yesterday, January 12, 2022, that “the death sentences of two people who set fire to the ‘Darreh Garm’ petrol station in Khorramabad during the ‘Fajr decade’ (a celebration held between February 1 to 11, in 2019) had been carried out,” but the names of the victims, the time of execution and the place of their burial remained unknown.

The two executed dissidents were Jahanbakhsh Abbasi and Mehran Naqdi, whom the mullahs’ court sentenced to death last year after torturing them and forcing them to take part in television confessions. According to the state news agency, IRNA, on December 19, 2019, a year before, Mohammad Razm, the head of the regime’s judiciary in Lorestan, had announced the arrest of the two men and charged them with “Moharebeh” (Waging war against God).

The execution of these two dissidents is reminiscent of the inhuman execution of Mostafa Salehi and Navid Afkari. Mustafa was executed in Isfahan on August 5, 2020, after two and a half years of torture and solitary confinement, on charges of killing a Revolutionary Guards member during the December 2017 Iran protests. Navid Afkari, a wrestling champion, was executed on September 12, 2020, for participating in the August 2018 protests in Shiraz.

Engulfed in crisis, and terrified of the spread of uprisings, the clerical regime has found the only way to remain in power in stepping up executions, torture, and repression.

The Iranian Resistance calls on the United Nations Secretary-General, the UN High Commissioner, the UN Human Rights Council, the UN Special Rapporteurs, and all human rights organizations, as well as the European Union and its member states, to take action to save the lives of death row prisoners. The regime’s four decades of crimes against humanity and genocide must be referred to the UN Security Council and any dealings with this regime should be stopped.
