  • Chairman of the Health Committee of Tehran City Council: We are all aware of the Coronavirus outbreak in the country and Tehran. Until yesterday, during the past six months, 10,200 people from Tehran have lost their lives due to Coronavirus. (ISNA, August 23)
  • President of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences: In the whole country, 3,500 people are on a ventilator, 10% of East Azerbaijan’s population has become infected, 80 patients are on a ventilator. (ILNA, August 23)
  • Alireza Zali, head of the National Coronavirus Combat Taskforce (NCCT) in Tehran: Iran is one of the three countries with the highest number of infections among its medical staff. The most important reason is the inevitable process of chronic fatigue of the medical teams, which has reduced their immunity and protection. (Mehr, August 23)
  • Contrary to expert reports published by the regime’s media, Rouhani, the regime’s president ridiculously claimed today, “During the Coronavirus outbreak, unemployment in Iran has only decreased by 1.1 percent, hospital beds have been doubled, treatment costs have decreased significantly, and the rate of people’s access to doctors and medical facilities have increased!”

The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced on Sunday, August 23, 2020, that the Coronavirus death toll in 403 cities across Iran had surpassed 93,400. The number of victims in Tehran is 22,725, Khorasan Razavi 6,666, Khuzestan 6,333, Qom 4,495, Isfahan 4,151, Lorestan 3,932, Alborz 2,735, Fars 2,628, Kermanshah 2,222, Hormozgan 1,254, Central Province 1,181, Yazd 1,129, Ardabil 1,097, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari 622, and Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad 545.

During a cabinet meeting with Khamenei online, Rouhani repeated his astronomical lies, saying: “While the economies of many large countries have shrunk by 20 percent due to Coronavirus, Iran’s economy has only suffered three percent, while in all countries, unemployment has increased, in Iran, it decreased by a total of 1.1% percent!” He also pointed to the doubling of hospital beds, a significant reduction in treatment costs, and a noteworthy increase in medical equipment and the rate of access to doctors and medical facilities during his presidency. Moreover, he claimed that these were the reasons for the “lower number of Coronavirus deaths in our country compared to many other developed countries!”

Meanwhile, the regime’s Parliamentary Research Center released a report on the economic consequences of the Coronavirus, announcing that between 2.8 to 6.4 million “current employees” were unemployed for a period due to the crisis, reported the state-run daily, Shahrvand, on August 17. The paper also quoted the Deputy Minister of Cooperative Labour and Social Welfare, as saying, “Businesses affected by the Coronavirus crisis sums to over 4.8 million jobs, which is 20.3% of total employment.”
