Iran: Maryam Rajavi called on the people of Lorestan to support the Dervishes in Brojerd

NCRI – Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance called the brutal attack on Brojerd’s Dervishes and leveling their Mosque another sign of the mullahs’ faltering regime. She described the crackdown by the State Security Forces (SSF) and paramilitary Bassij forces on Dervishes and their resistance to the assaults a clear indication of the regime’s vulnerability in combating different stratus of the Iranian society. She also called on the international community to condemn the Iranian regime’s suppressive measures against Brojerd’s Dervishes and to take urgent actions to free the detainees.

Mrs. Rajavi called on the residents of the western province of Lorestan, in particular the youths, to support the families of detained Dervishes in Brojerd by aiding them.

She added that suppressing the Dervishes in Brojerd demonstrated the depth of systematic religious discrimination in Iran which does not stop at harassment of believers of other faiths or even the Sunni Muslims; rather it has included the Shiites who do not totally submit to the regime. One good example is the recent crackdown on the Dervishes in Brojerd.

Mrs. Rajavi drew the attention of the ongoing session of the UN General Assembly and the Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief and all other international human rights organizations to the increasing suppression of the religious minorities in Iran.

Sunday’s crackdown on the Brojerd’s Dervishes and their resistance to the attacks by the SSF and other security forces resulted in 80 wounded and 180 other arrested by the suppressive security forces.

In February 2006, the SSF units, in a similar move, attacked the Dervishes’ Mosque and arrested 2,000 worshipers in the holy city of Qom.
