Iran: International call to save the life of a political prisoner on death row

NCRI – The state of health of Mr. Mohammad Ali Haj Aqai, a 62-year-old married political prisoner, has deteriorated. He was arrested on September 18 uprising in Tehran and later sentenced to death as mohareb (enemy of God).

He had spent seven years in prison in 1980s for supporting the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). He is now on the death row for the same reason. His sentence has been reinstated without observing the clerical regime’s own rules and procedures and without being referred to the High Court. The regime has refused to hand over a copy of his file to his attorney.

His health has deteriorated in recent months due to tortures and pressures on him by the regime in order to extract forced confessions. The authorities do not provide any medical attention to him.

The Iranian Resistance calls on the United Nations Secretary General, UN Security Council, the international community and all defenders of human rights to take urgent and binding measures to stop the death sentence on Mr. Haj Aqai and other prisoners to be carried out and work toward the release of all political prisoners.
