According to reports from inside Iran, on Tuesday, May 12, two prisoners identified as Mohsen Sadeghi, 35, and Reza Choupani, 40, were hanged at Isfahan’s central prison. A 37-year-old mother of two identified as Maryam Rezaipour has been taken to solitary confinement since May 10 awaiting her hanging.

Earlier on May 10 and 11, three others were hanged in the same prison. They were identified as Mahmoud Karimi, 27, Hossein Baqeri, 32, and Alireza Malek Mohammadi, 35.

The following people were also sent to death in the past six days:

On May 11, two prisoners, Mohammad Mehdi Kh. and Reza Gholi S. were hanged at the Zahedan prison (ISCA News, May 11, 2009).

On May 9, two prisoners identified only by their initials, A. M., 29, and A. R., 36, were hanged at the Adelabad prison in Shiraz (ISCA News, May 9, 2009).

On May 7, a 24 year old male was hanged at the notorious Evin prison in Tehran.

On May 7, one woman and four men, identified as Sorour, Mahmoud Mohammadi, Majid P., Saeed D., and Sattar N., were hanged at Kerman’s prison (Fars News Agency).

On May 6, a male prisoner identified as Abdolbarat Nourzehi was executed at the Khash prison.

These bring the total number of executions this year to 181, indicating a 70 percent rise compared to the same period last year.

The increasing number of death sentences carried out by the clerical regime reveals that in its final days the religious dictatorship ruling Iran has no other option but to deal with mounting resistance and popular protests through barbaric and medieval executions.

The Iranian Resistance calls on all international human rights organizations, especially the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, to condemn the deteriorating human rights situation in Iran, and to refer the clerical regime’s human rights violations dossier to the UN Security Council for adoption of immediate and binding measures to end capital punishment in Iran.
