Iran: Hundreds arrested in southeastern province

International call by the Iranian Resistance to condemn the recent wave of hangings, suppression and terror

NCRI – Hundreds of Iranian youths have been arrested in the southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchistan during the recent days. The Iranian Resistance calls on international human rights organizations, especially the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to appoint a special mission to investigate the arrests and adopt immediate measures to prevent executions in that province.

The Iranian regime’s suppressive forces have in recent days brutally attacked various areas in the province, arresting a large number of youths in order to create an atmosphere of terror and fear. Nightly raids and mass arrests are still going on.

On Monday, June 1, the head of the clerical regime’s judiciary in the province, Ebrahim Hamidi, acknowledged the arrest of 150 people during the recent social unrest in the province’s capital, Zahedan, and added, “Those who create the unrest will be dealt with decisively and legally” (State-run website Shahab News, June 1, 2009). This is clearly an unveiled threat signaling the clerical regime’s ominous intentions to carry out widespread hangings.
