Iranian Resistance urges world community to act against widespread executions, particularly of minors

NCRI, October 10 – On World Day Against the Death Penalty, the National Council of Resistance of Iran calls on international human rights bodies to condemn the continuing wave of executions in Iran, particularly of minors, which is a blatant breach of conventions on the rights of children.

The clerical regime hanged or sentenced to death nine more prisoners in Tehran, Shahriar (Karaj), Sari (northern Iran) and Kashan (central Iran).

The state-run daily, Iran, wrote on October 9, "The Judiciary in Shahriar sentenced to death a 17-year-old, named Hamid." The same daily wrote that a 19-year-old was sentenced to death in Tehran. According to the state-controlled news agency, ISNA, the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence against Ismail, 22, accused of murdering his friend 4 1/2 years ago. The victim was also sentenced to 80 lashes of the whip.

These bring to at least 71, the number of hangings and death sentences since Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s presidency 3 1/2 months ago. Many of the victims are teenagers and minors.

The National Council of Resistance of Iran urges the current session of the United Nations General Assembly to adopt a strongly-worded resolution censuring the mullahs’ medieval dictatorship for the barbaric and systematic violations of human rights and public executions, especially those of minors, as well as degrading and cruel punishments.
