Iran: Dr. Maleki’s health deteriorating in Evin Prison

Dr. Mohammad MalekiThe health condition of Dr. Mohammad Maleki, 76, former chancellor of Tehran University, has deteriorated in notorious Evin prison. At the time of his arrest on August 22, Dr. Maleki already was in difficult condition due to his severe ailments.

The appalling prison conditions and lack of proper medical attention coupled with his diabetes and heart problems has further complicated his health.

He was a political prisoner during the Shah’s time, and has spent five years in medieval dungeons of the mullahs after his arrest in July 1981. He refused to surrender to the mullahs and instead exposed their crimes.

The Iranian Resistance warns against inhuman pressures on Dr. Maleki and threats to his life and calls on all human rights organizations to act for his immediate release.
