Call to save the lives of political prisoners Asghar Qatan and Ahmad Daneshvar Moqadam whose lives are in danger

NCRI – The Iranian Resistance calls on all human rights bodies and organs,UN Special Rapporteur on torture and Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, and the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran to take urgent action to save the lives of political prisoners Asghar Qatan and Ahmad Daneshvar Moqadam who are in critical condition because of being denied necessary medical services.

Mr. Asghar Qatan, political prisoner and supporter of PMOI/MEK, who is in critical condition due to stomach cancer and in need of immediate surgery, is being denied the least medical treatment. At the age of 63 and a doctor in physics and seismology, he also suffers from other serious health problems such as enlargement of the liver and spleen and heart ailments.

For his transfer to the hospital, regime’s henchmen put his hands and feet in shackles. As he resisted this barbaric behavior, the henchmen prevented his transfer to the hospital. Attempts by his family to put bail in order to secure his transfer to the hospital proved futile. Mr. Asghar Qatan who was imprisonment and tortured for six years back in the 1980s for his support for the PMOI was arrested again in January 2011.

Political prisoner Ahmad Daneshpour Moqadam, 42, along with his 70-year-old father Mohsen Daneshpour Moqadam, has been condemned to death on the charge of Moharebeh (enmity with God) for his support for the PMOI. He has lost 40 kg of his weight due to bleeding of the intestine and its side effects. He too is being denied medical services and his life is in danger.

Tormenting political prisoners to death by intentionally depriving them of medical treatment is a well known method employed by the religious fascism ruling Iran. Mr. Mohsen Dogmechi, a political prisoner and a famous merchant in Tehran’s bazaar, was tormented to death by being denied medical care and became a martyr as he lost his life in March 2011.
