The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced on Monday, July 6, 2020, that the Coronavirus death toll in 342 cities in Iran is more than 66,400. The number of victims in Khuzestan is 5,075, Khorasan Razavi 4,690, Isfahan 3,255, Alborz 2,065, East Azerbaijan 1,945, West Azerbaijan 1,880, Kermanshah 1,690, Hamedan 1,485, Ardabil 716, Central Province 675, Bushehr 670, and Ilam 470.
A spokesperson for the regime’s Health Ministry said the number of deaths in the past 24 hours was 160, and the number of patients under intensive care was 3,201. She told the state news agency IRNA, today, “The provinces of Khuzestan, Hormozgan, Bushehr, Kermanshah, Kurdistan, Ilam, East and West Azerbaijan, and Khorasan Razavi are red. The provinces of Golestan, Alborz, Kerman, Yazd, Hamedan, and Sistan and Baluchestan are on alert.”
Masoud Mardani, a member of the National Coronavirus Combat Taskforce (NCCT), told ISNA news agency yesterday, “The actual number of people infected with the Coronavirus, and even the death toll is higher than the published statistics, as not everyone who dies of Coronavirus is brought to the hospital. Also, many of the tests do not successfully diagnose the virus.”
In Tehran, the director of Behesht Zahra Cemetery (Tehran’s main Cemetery), was quoted by Tasnim news agency, as saying today, “The fatality figures we have been witnessing in the past 75 days are unprecedented, and if (health protocols) are not observed, Tehran will return to difficult conditions … Cemeteries across the country have an exceptional condition, and the death toll for Tehran is not comparable to the rest of the country.”
The president of Iran’s University of Medical Sciences commenting on the situation of hospitals in the country, especially in Tehran, told ILNA, today, “In recent weeks, especially since Mid-June the prevalence of COVID-19 in Tehran, is increasing … We have had more patients since Mid-June, daily. We have always been facing limitations in hospital beds.”
The Deputy Health Minister announced the possibility of re-imposing restrictions in Tehran, following the increase in the number of patients in recent days, reported Moj news agency, yesterday.
In Zanjan, the president of the Medical Sciences University said, “Since the end of May, the number of those hospitalized in the Province has reached 600 from 270. Occupied beds have risen from 20 percent to more than 76 percent. The cities of Mahneshan, Khorramdareh, Zanjan, and Abhar are red. We don’t have a white (virus-free) city,” according to Mehr news agency yesterday.
In Hamedan, the president of the Medical Sciences University told IRNA today, “The number of patients with acute respiratory symptoms who are hospitalized has tripled. If it quadruples, we will lose the ability to control the virus due to the shortage of Oxygen-making machines. Hospitals supervised by the Medical Sciences University has 3,200 beds. If five percent of Hamedan’s 500,000 population becomes infected, 35,000 beds would be needed. If the current patients increase by 10 to 20 percent, we are forced to hospitalize them in the corridors.”
In Alborz, the president of the Medical Sciences University told ISNA today about the increase in Coronavirus patients in hospitals and “the increase in ICU beds” and fatigue among “the health and medical personnel.”
In Fars, vice-president of the Medical Sciences University in Shiraz was quoted by Shafaqna yesterday as saying, “1,000 have been infected with Coronavirus in the past 24 hours,” adding, “The hospitals have reached full capacity.”
In Hormozgan, according to the state-run TV yesterday, the Medical Sciences University put the number of deaths at 309. The figure includes only those who had died in hospitals covered by the University and tested positive. The actual number of death in Hormozgan is much more.
In Ilam, the head of Abdanan Health Network told IRNA yesterday, “The rise in the number of those infected is very worrisome. Out of 11 tests, eight are positive. The five-fold increase in daily referrals to health and treatment centers has exhausted the physicians, nurses, and administrative and service staff.”
In East Azerbaijan, the head of Bonab Health and Treatment Network told Fars news agency yesterday, “Out of 3,800 people tested, 1,300 were positive.”
In another development, the society of Iran’s Medical Group Association with 170 medical associations issued a statement published by Shargh today. It said, “The country’s medical community recommends to the Government, managers, and planners to spend the country’s strategic resources at the expense of closing their eyes to many other expenditures and interests to confront this sinister calamity such that in the face of the probable storm that looms ahead, they would not regret abandoning their ethical responsibilities.”
