Iran: Call to save life of another Kurdish political prisoner

NCRI – A Kurdish political prisoner, Shirko Moa’refi, 30, was transferred on Thursday evening to a solitary confinement in the Saqqez city’s Central Prison and he faces execution.

The Iranian regime’s henchmen responsible for carrying out the death sentences in the Kurdistan province’s prisons along with Garoosi, the province’s judiciary chief have travelled to Saqqez to carry out the execution.

Shirko Moa'refi, from city of Baneh in Kurdistan was arrested in October 2008 and imprisoned by the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) in Saqqez.  After a long period of interrogation and torture, he was sentenced to death for “acting against the national security” and “waging war against God,” without going through any proper legal procedure. Agents of MOIS threatened his family and prevented them from holding any protest or publicizing his case.

This move by Iranian authorities comes two days after the execution of another Kurdish political prisoner, Ehsan Fattahian.

The Iranian Resistance calls on the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial Executions to take immediate measures to save the life of Mr. Shirko Moa’refi.
