Emergency Protection Report 115

Rouhani

“We learned on February 19 that Corona had come… Then the people were told. We did not delay even a day.”

Documents of the National Emergency Organization show that on February 4, 2020, in addition to Qom, a significant number of patients had been hospitalized in Tehran. Several had been taken to Khomeini, Yaftabad and Masih Daneshvari hospitals in Tehran.

This is while the regime’s Health Minister Saied Namaki said on February 18, “We have had no novel Coronavirus infection anywhere in the country.”

Rouhani said on March 19, “We learned on February 19 that the corona had come; meaning that tests in Qom were also tested in Tehran and the result showed that they were positive. This was Tuesday night, February 18 and on Wednesday morning, February 19, we told the government and the public; we did not delay even one day. Although elections were scheduled for February 21, we could have waited and announced on February 22. But we did not do that and spoke honestly with the people.”

On March 3, 2020, Khamenei said, “This disease is not serious; we have seen more disastrous calamities than this.” He called it a “fleeting event,” nothing “extraordinary.” Khamenei added: “Our officials have revealed information since day one with enthusiasm, honesty, and transparency, and they informed the people.”

“Of course, I don’t want to understate the issue, but do not make a big thing out of it … It’s a problem, God willing, it won’t last too long, it will be there for the country, then it will go away. And we will gain experience (in this way). And out of the activities that people and the system will have, it will, in fact, be like a military exercise that could become an achievement (for us). With these achievements, the disease will become a blessing for us, and the threat an opportunity,” he added.

Undoubtedly, this criminal cover-up to enable the regime to hold the February 11 Revolution anniversary and the February 21 sham parliamentary election played a critical role in the rapid spread of the coronavirus in Iran and to the Middle East region and the catastrophic number of the victims. Khamenei, Rouhani and other regime leaders are directly responsible for this crime against humanity and must face justice.
