NCRI – On January 4, Shiraz University students protested against the detention of four students of this university by the mullahs’ Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS), and clashed with the regime’s security agents, while chanting “Death to dictator,” and “Pinochet, Pinochet, Iran won’t become Chile.”

The protesting students carried pictures of their detained classmates, Abdoljalil Rezaii, Kazem Rezaii, Mohsen Zarrin Kamar, and Loghman Ghadiri Goltappeh, and chanted slogans such as “Detained students must be freed” and “Even with flying bullets and plots, the movement will persevere.” They demanded the immediate and unconditional release of their peers. They also demanded the annulment of “disciplinary rulings” issued for 27 other Shiraz University students who had been sentenced for participating in anti-regime protests.

According to obtained reports, the mullahs’ State Security Forces (SSF) and plainclothes agents were stationed at the campus from the early morning hours on Sunday. This prompted protests by students and led to clashes between the students and SSF. The mullahs’ MOIS agents have also disconnected the campus internet network. Shiraz University students declared that unless the detained students are freed, they would continue with their protests.

The Iranian Resistance condemns the arrests and suppression of Shiraz University students and warns about the persistence of these arrests as well as threats of torture and execution of university activists. The Iranian Resistance calls on all international human rights organizations and bodies as well as student unions and syndicates in various countries to support student protests in Iran and adopt effective measures aimed at ending the widespread suppression of Iranian university students.
