Iran: 80 Sunni prisoners go on hunger strike in Gohardasht Prison

Gohardasht Prison, IranNCRI – Eighty Sunni prisoners of Gohardasht Prison in Karaj have gone on a hunger strike to save the lives of four political prisoners of Kurdish compatriots condemned to death. These four are Messrs. Hamed Ahmadi, Kamal Mola’ei, and two brothers Jamshid and Jahangir Dehqani.

The prisoners on strike have announced: “We, the Sunni prisoners of conscious of Rajaishahr, declare that most of us have begun a hunger strike since June 16, 2014 to express our support for four of our brothers who are about to be hanged in Ghezel Hessar Prison of Karaj and we shall continue our protest until their execution sentences are stopped and revoked.”

Similarly, the families of the prisoners who in the recent days had staged a sit-in to protest both the death sentences and the cruel acts against their children in the past days announced that their children have been condemned in unfair trials without having any lawyers to defend them and they had been charged with propaganda activities in favor of the Shafei religion.

Since dawn of June 14, these four prisoners have been transferred from Gohardasht Prison to Ghezel Hessar quarantine in preparation for the execution of their death sentences. During the days of June 14, 15 and 16, in an anti-human psychological torture, the henchmen have taken the four to the gallows and put the noose around their necks and then at the last minute reiterated to the victims that their executions have been deferred until the next or following days.
