The Iranian regime transfers 16 prisoners to notorious Evin prison to carry out cruel sentence of mass hanging

NCRI- According to reports obtained from inside Iran, on Saturday, February 21, 2009, the mullah regime’s henchmen transferred 16 prisoners from Karaj’s Gohardasht prison to the notorious Evin prison in Tehran in order to carry out a cruel sentence of mass hanging. Messrs Hani Khandar, Hamid Mohammadi, and Aziz Mohseni are among the victims.

Mr. Hani Khandar was arrested in the summer of 2007 after widespread popular protests against gasoline price hikes, and thereafter imprisoned. He was subjected to torture for a long time in the gruesome ward 209 of Evin, and later transferred to the Kahrizak prison. Regime henchmen tried to break down this political prisoner by pulling his nails and conducting mock hangings, among other torture methods.

Messrs Hamid Mohammadi and Aziz Mohseni were arrested in the course of the implementation of suppressive plans referred to by the regime as “Improving Social Safety,” and later subjected to interrogation and torture.

It is worth mentioning that during the first few days of every month in the Persian calendar, the mullahs’ regime conducts shocking mass hangings in order to heighten the atmosphere of terror and fear in its prisons and medieval torture chambers.

The Iranian Resistance calls on all international human rights organizations especially the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to condemn these cruel punishments and work toward putting an end to them. The Iranian Resistance further emphasizes that referral of the regime’s dossier of human rights violations to the UN Security Council for adoption of immediate and binding measures and appointment of a UN Special Rapporteur to monitor horrendous human rights abuses in Iran, is crucial now more than ever before.
