Clerical regime steps up pressure on Gohardasht prisoners by restricting food and hygiene suppliesNCRI – Pressure on Gohardasht prisoners in Karaj, west of Tehran, has mounted by removing meat and protein from their daily meal. Moreover, the quality of food is so low that the prisoners prefer to have bread only. They are constantly suffering from digestive system disorder.

The prison shop generally sells products unfit for consumption. They are also priced so high that prisoners cannot even afford to buy them.

The hygiene in prison has deteriorated due to overcrowded cells and it is getting worse everyday as the number going up by 10-20 on daily basis. Some prisoners end up sleeping in the corridors of the ward due to high number of inmates. Some 800 inmates of a ward only have one toilet as the rest are out of order.

Distribution of cleaning stuff has been ceased for some time. Lice can be found in large numbers everywhere in prison and the inmates are suffering from various ailments due to polluted water and the leakage of sewage system.

The Iranian Resistance calls on the High Commissioner for Human Rights and relevant UN rapporteurs, Amnesty International and other international human rights organizations to condemn the inhumane prison conditions in Iran. It also asks them to intervene urgently to improve the situation in the medieval prisons especially for political prisons.
