Clashes in many parts of Tehran continue after darkJuly 9 uprising – Statement 11

“God is great” chants louder and more widespread than previous nights

NCRI – Protests in Tehran on the 27th day of the nationwide uprising of the Iranian people and on the 10th anniversary of the July 9, 1999 uprising continued in many parts of Tehran today hours after sunset. People resisted violent attacks by the regime’s suppressive forces, chanting “God is great,” “Death to dictator,” and “Death to Khamenei.”

Many protestors were severely injured as a result of being struck by batons on their heads and faces. In Revolution Square, dozens were wounded and at least 35 arrested. In Vanak Square, a large number of protestors were either arrested or injured as well.

This afternoon, sounds of car horns in solidarity with the protestors continued nonstop in Tehran’s central streets. At night, slogans of “God is great” from rooftops were chanted much louder than previous nights.
