A further suppressive step in Iran

NCRI – The chief of the mullahs’ judiciary, Mahmoud Hashemi-Shahroudi announced the creation of a new organ called “Social Protection Headquarters.”  Yesterday, he spoke at the “first nationwide session of the Social Protection Headquarters” and stressed the need for the formation of “a preemptive organization for social protection” (state-run new agency, Fars, Nov. 22).

Shahroudi described the aim of the SPH to be “reformation and pedagogy of society”, adding, “The advantage of the Social Protection Headquarters is having a broader and deeper presence in society than that of legal, official, disciplinary, and security forces to the degree that in places where there is not a possibility of an official presence by the judicial or security apparatus, this headquarters can fill in the gap and discover the unhealthy currents there.”

The creation of numerous new suppressive apparatuses in the society, before anything else, is an indication of the fear and apprehension of the leaders of the mullahs’ regime of the volatile state of society.
