Iraqi repressive forces prevent burial of martyrs at Ashraf’s cemetery

Camp Ashraf Military Occupation – No. 64

NCRI – 10 days after the brutal attack on Ashraf which left hundreds killed and wounded, in an inhumane and anti-Islamic act the Iraqi repressive forces continue to prevent the burial of the Ashraf residents’ martyrs in the camp’s ‘Pearl’ Cemetery.

This is while Muhammad Askari, Maliki’s spokesman in the Ministry of Defense appeared on state-run Iraqiya TV on April 15th claiming:

“The Iraqi security forces are not preventing the burial ceremony. The government respects Islamic beliefs and rituals regarding their burial, and is ready to provide any necessary supplies and help carry out the burial ceremony.” Two days later, the Iraqi forces officially opposed the burial of the martyrs in Pearl Cemetery. Agence France Presse cited an “an official at Baquba Operations Command in Diyala province” as saying: ‘The cemetery is under the control of the Iraqi army, so if the mujahedeen come to bury their dead, there will be disputes.” He added, “’We have already asked them to bury the corpses outside the cemetery, but inside Camp Ashraf.” (Agence France Presse, 17 April 2011)

This is only a reminder of the methods of the Iranian regime’s bloodthirsty Revolutionary Guards who fear even the PMOI’s corpses.

The families of many martyrs inside Iran have been forced to bury their executed loved ones in their own backyards. Also, on 28 December 2011 following the execution of PMOI hero Ali Saremi, the most senior political prisoner with 24 years in prison, the Iranian regime’s henchmen secretly transferred his corpse from Tehran to a village near the city of Boroujerd and buried him there.

The Iranian Resistance strongly condemns these wicked measures with the bodies of the martyrs carried out on the Maliki’s orders.

These are flagrant violations of international laws, conventions and covenants. It is up to the UN and US forces to guarantee the burial of the 34 martyrs by handing over the Pearl Cemetery to Ashraf residents.
