Iraqi National Dialogue Front: Suppression of Ashraf residents is a crime and must be prosecuted

Ashraf attacked – Statement 51

NCRI – The Iraqi National Dialogue Front issued a statement yesterday signed by its leader, Dr. Saleh Mutlak, which says:

“The attack against Ashraf is considered to be an insult to the people of Iraq as well. Iraqis have been shocked and amazed after hearing news about the attack by police forces against Camp Ashraf of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran. Scenes of shots being fired and beating of unarmed and defenseless people have been broadcast around the world and sadly a cruel and inhumane crime has taken place, which has led to 7 martyrs, 400 injuries, and dozens of arrests. It is prosecutable in Iraqi and international courts. The situation of many of the wounded is critical.”

The National Dialogue Front added in its statement, “Ashraf residents have been deeply respected during all these years by the Iraqi people and protecting them against the plots, pressures and political quid-pro-quo deals has turned into a matter of national pride for us. However, with the occurrence of yesterday’s crimes, which have left a dark stain on those who ordered and carried it out, Iraq’s political forces and people must only distance themselves from it. We declare that this crime has no relation to the people and country of Iraq and demand the trial of all those involved.”

In the statement, Dr. Mutlak “demanded that a delegation of Iraqi parliamentarians be immediately allowed to visit Ashraf and investigate this crime.” He also “urged international organizations to immediately intervene to take care of the hundreds of injured and pursue the fate of those imprisoned.”

The Iraqi National Dialogue Front also noted, “American forces, who witnessed these scenes and are responsible for implementing international law regarding Ashraf residents are undoubtedly responsible to prevent these actions and are held accountable for all instances of rights violations.”
