Iraqi Government eventually admitted to have taken hostage 36 residents of Camp Ashraf

National Council of Resistance of IranIranian opposition’s Ashraf attacked – Statement 63

NCRI – At 19:00 local time, Major General Shamari, Iraq’s Diyala Province Police Commander, admitted that his forces have arrested 36 members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

According to Al-Hura TV, he said: “These people are among those who were involved in riots inside Camp Ashraf in recent four days which led to the death of two police personnel and wounding of 66 others and collateral damages to Camp Ashraf which is considered as an Iraqi property.”

Shamari added: “Extradition of members of this organization to Iranian authorities is not within jurisdiction of the police authority.”

Irrespective of the ridiculous lies by agents of the Iranian regime, after official acknowledgement of Iraqi police that it holds 36 residents of Camp Ashraf who are protected persons;
1) It is obvious that Nouri Maliki and the Iraqi police bear the full responsibility of protecting the hostages and they should be held answerable for any harm to the 36 PMOI members now or any time in future,
2) Now that the Iraqi Government has officially accepted the responsibility of holding the 36 PMOI members, it should immediately allow their international lawyers to visit them. The 36 detainees are wounded and currently on hunger strike.
