Iraqi committee prohibits entry of medicine and doctors to Ashraf under Iran regime orders

Iraqi Government is responsible for this war crime and those who ordered it are liable to prosecution

NCRI – According to an instruction by the Iraqi Prime Ministry committee, which is responsible for suppression of Camp Ashraf residents, entry of physicians and medicine to Ashraf are prohibited.

On Wednesday, November 25, a representative from the Diyala province’s Department of Health informed Ashraf residents of the inhuman and criminal restriction imposed on them. This new measure threatens the lives and well being of a large number of Ashraf residents. Under the supervision of a representative from the same department the medicine purchased by the residents could enter the camp up until this restriction was imposed.

Entry of medicine and specialist Iraqi doctors to Ashraf are prohibited while a large number of residents who were wounded during the July criminal attack on Ashraf as well as patients with serious ailments are suffering from lack of special medicines and medical attention.

The Iraqi committee responsible for suppression of Ashraf residents is under direct influence of the religious fascism ruling Iran. Medical restrictions were imposed on the residents since the time the responsibility of protection of Ashraf was transferred to the Iraqis. The committee has continually increased the restrictions to a point where Ashraf is now under a total ban. This is something which can only be expected from the evil and anti-human nature of the clerical regime. This kind of crime hardly takes place in war situations or in lands under occupation.

The Iraqi forces have been preventing specialist doctors from going to Ashraf for the past few months.  These specialists had been visiting the camp for years to treat the patients in Ashraf. The Iraqi committee only allowed doctors from the Diyala province Health Department to visit Ashraf. There were also a lot of restrictions for these doctors and five medical teams from the same Health Department were prevented from entering the camp only in one month.

As another form of inhuman measure against Ashraf residents, the committee has also banned laboratory tests needed for the patients and wounded. Tests were normally conducted in laboratories in Baghdad on samples taken from patients. Medical equipments needed for the medical center in Ashraf are also prevented from entering the camp.

Suppressive measures against Ashraf residents have intensified specially after the visit to Baghdad by Ali Larijani, mullahs’ parliament speaker, in early November. In a press conference in Baghdad on November 4, he called for extradition of Ashraf residents to Iran. This request was repeated a number of times by Kazemi Qomi, the regime’s ambassador to Baghdad.

The Iranian Resistance reiterates that depriving people of medical services is an obvious example of crime against humanity and war crime, and it holds the Iraqi Government directly responsible for any harm to Ashraf residents’ health resulting from this inhuman restriction. Officials and those responsible for implementation of this cruel siege are liable for prosecution by international tribunals.

The Iranian Resistance once again calls on the United States Ambassador to Iraq and the U.S. forces in that country, the United Nations Secretary General, U.N. Security Council, U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, Special Representative of the Secretary General for Iraq, United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) and all human rights organizations to condemn the criminal siege on Ashraf and take urgent measures to remove it.
