Iraq: Seven Camp Ashraf hostages are held in Maliki’s prison in Baghdad Airport

The seven Camp Ashraf hostages are in a prison in Baghdad Airport controlled by Maliki’s Dirty Division and organization to “battle terrorism”

Call on UN, ICRC, U.S. and EU to visit hostages and secure their freedom

NCRI – According to the latest reports, the seven Iranian Camp Ashraf hostages continue to be held in a prison at Baghdad airport under control of the Dirty Division (Golden Division) and organization to “battle terrorism” that are controlled personally by Maliki.

After their abduction, the Iranian dissidents were first taken from Camp Ashraf to Baghdad Green Zone and then to a prison in the airport area.

On Friday, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, referring to the seven Camp Ashraf hostages said in a statement: “According to reports reaching UNHCR… are being held somewhere in Iraq and may be at risk of being returned involuntarily to Iran. These seven are all known by UNHCR to be asylum-seekers, and the agency hopes to have an opportunity to interview them. In light of the numerous and persistent reports over the past week that these individuals may be at risk of forced return to Iran, UNHCR calls upon the Government of Iraq to locate them, to ensure their physical security, and to safeguard them against return to Iran against their will.”

Meanwhile Associated Press reported: Georges Bakoos political advisor of Maliki, “who oversees the MEK issue for the Iraqi government, denied Friday that the seven said to be missing are in Iraqi custody”.

This blatant lie on the one hand discloses Iraqi government’s dread of political, international and judicial consequences of its crime against humanity in Camp Ashraf and on the other hand paving of the way by al-Maliki government to hand over the hostages to the clerical regime.

The Iranian Resistance calls on the U.S. government and the United Nations that bear full legal, political and moral responsibility for safety and security of the seven Iranian dissidents taken hostages to intervene to secure their immediate freedom.

The Iranian Resistance also calls on U.S., UN and ICRC representatives and the diplomatic community in Baghdad, especially European diplomats, to visit the Camp Ashraf hostages to ascertain their safety.
