Iraq obstructs providing minimum security requirements for Camp Liberty

NCRI – It is more than three months now that the Government of Iraq has been rejecting provision of nearly any of security necessities of Liberty residents. This measure is despite repeated requests, referrals and correspondence of residents and their representatives to UN and U.S. officials and despite lots of international calls.

Not even one of the 17,500 T-walls have been returned to the camp. These T-walls used to provide relative protection for containers during U.S. forces’ presence. GOI has also rejected transferring protective helmets and vests and medical equipment from Ashraf to Liberty; it has neither allowed entry of shovels, picks and sandbags for building shelters. The sandbags, which were purchased by the residents and were confiscated, are still outside the camp.

It is nearly three months that the entry of adequate number of small bunkers is banned by the GOI under various pretexts, whilst their entry had already been agreed on.
All these restrictions are imposed despite that fact that Camp Liberty is inside a war and unsafe zone with the GOI imposing a siege on the residents who lack any protection and minimum security necessities.

These measures show that not only does the GOI intend to resolve security issues of Liberty where is located in a war zone, but it also plans to cause further casualties on the PMOI in next attacks and aggressions through continuous obstructions against taking security measures at the behest of the Iranian regime.
The past 16 months incidents at Liberty, especially the missile barrages on February 9 and April 29, leave no doubt that the only way to ensure minimum protection for Liberty residents lies in their return to Ashraf.
