Iraq obstruct sale of Camp Ashraf residents’ property, sends away more buyers

In a flagrant breach of international and Iraqi laws, and agreements with UN and US, the Iraqi government of Nouri al-Maliki has sent away more Iraqi buyers of Camp Ashraf residents’ property from Camp Liberty’s entrance gate.

On December 16, Iraqi officer Ahmed Khozair, refused entry to two Iraqi merchants who had come to Camp Liberty to reach an agreement for purchase of Ashraf property, and hours later he ultimately force them to return.

Therefore, since 4 October 2013, 62 Iraqi businessmen who had gone to Camp Liberty to discuss purchase of Ashraf property faced harassment by Iraqi Prime Ministry agents, their mobile phones were taken from them, and they were sent away from the entrance to Camp Liberty.

In all these cases, residents’ representatives had informed UNAMI and Iraqi forces in Camp Liberty about the businessmen coming to Camp Liberty several days ahead of time.

This is while in the joint plan of UNAMI and U.S. Embassy in Iraq on 5 September 2013, which is accepted by the Iraqi government as well, it is stressed that “The GOI shall allow the residents to sell their property at any time” and “GOI shall safeguard and guarantee all Ashraf property.”

Moreover, on September 6, Ms. Beth Jones, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, in a letter to Mrs. Maryam Rajavi emphasized on the above plan and wrote: “the United Nations will help facilitate the safeguarding of the property at Ashraf through your retention of a trusted local security firm. The U.S. Embassy will do its utmost to support these efforts.”

All these harassments are conducted under supervision of Ahmed Khozair, a murderer of Camp Ashraf residents and a person responsible for the September 2013 and April 2011 massacres who has also played a very active role in the 2-year psychological torture of the residents and 5-year inhumane siege of Ashraf and Liberty.
