Iraq deliberately delays providing security for Camp Liberty residents

Continuation of non-ending lies of the Government of Iraq and Martin Kobler for deceiving international community following trip of Mullah Moslehi to Iraq

NCRI – Following trip of Mullah Heyadr Moslehi, the clerical regime’s Intelligence Minister, to Iraq and conveying Khamenie’s orders, Nouri-al-Maliki with collaboration of Martin Kobler, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Iraq, continues the repeated and non-ending episode of disseminating lies against Liberty residents. That is done to deceive international community and to justify deliberate delays in taking measures necessary for security of the residents.

The National Council of Resistance of Iran, in a statement on April 5 revealed that in his report to Khamenei’s Office, Moslehi has underscored “Maliki and Faleh Fayyaz, the National Security Advisor to Maliki have reassured him that they would treat residents of Camp Liberty in the harshest way and that returning of the protective T-walls, extending the area of Camp Liberty and construction in the camp, as well as entering of sandbags in Camp Liberty would be prohibited.”

1- Regarding returning 17,500 T-walls to protect the trailers, Iraqi authorities are lying that the T-walls have been distributed in Baghdad. The T-walls are stockpiled behind the walls of Camp Liberty and could easily be transferred into the camp.

2- By resorting to deceit, Iraqi authorities claim that a large number of small T-walls have already been brought into the camp. The reality is that on February 9 after the rocket attack, the representative of the Government of Iraq , at the presence of the representative of UNAMI, agreed that 500 small bunkers be brought inside Liberty for the protection of 3100 persons. Until now 279 of these bunkers have not brought into Liberty. Sides of these bunkers are sealed with two small T-walls with height of less than 2 meters. These T-walls have nothing to do with protective T-walls with 360-370 cm heights. By exploiting the similarity of names of these walls, the Government of Iraq and Martin Kobler are resorting to deception on this matter.

The residents have rented three cranes and a number of lorries for transferring these bunkers with an exorbitant cost (more than $100,000 so far). But due to restrictions imposed by Iraqi forces, the cranes and lorries work maximum five hours a day, which has considerably slowed down the work. Repeated meetings and requests by the residents and their representative to increase the number of cranes and their working hours have been futile. The residents request to rent three cranes with bearing the cost or to transfer temporarily three cranes from Ashraf to Liberty so in the presence of Iraqi Police they could work around the clock, in order to be able to finish placing the bunkers in appropriate places quicker. Every crane needs four lories. The residents would bear that cost as well.
3- The Iraqi authorities idiotically have claimed that the residents crush the small T-walls and use them to construct playing fields or for other activities. They have also claimed that the residents are using the sandbags for separating sections of the camp instead of using them for protection. Such lies are simply excuses for not providing minimum security at Camp Liberty.

4- Another lie is that the residents have boycotted the management meetings of the camp and this does not help resolving the issue of security of the camp including entering sand bags! The individual who has been introduced for management of the Camp is Colonel Haqi and the residents have never boycotted his meetings. They simply do not take part in meetings that the head of the Iraqi side is Sadeq Mohammad Kazem. He is the murderer of a number of the residents in the 2009 and 2011 attacks and the Court of Spain has summoned him for Crime Against International Community. The issues pertaining to security of the residents have been raised in hundreds of meetings, letters, emails in Liberty, Paris, Washington, New York, and Geneva, but to no avail.

5- Physical attack on monitors, insulting them or spitting at them is another lie that Martin Kobler has disseminated in American, European and the UN circles in order to cover up his complicity in crime against humanity in Liberty. In a statement on April 1, the National Council of Resistance of Iran denied this lie and pointed out: “The residents have never had an aggressive or insulting attitude to any of the UN staff. As their representatives wrote to the UN Secretary General, they do not talk to an individual by the name of Masoud Durrani, who has communicated the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence messages to residents. UNAMI’s human rights deputy went to Liberty on March 29 and visited various locations for several hours and spoke with a large number of residents.”

Kobler repeatedly had disseminated similar lies against the residents; including lies such as the residents had used sand paper on their fingers in order to change their fingerprints, had littered the garbage across Liberty, and had deliberately punctured sewage tanks! The representatives of the residents have repeatedly asked him to provide details, time, and place that these claimes have taken place but he has consistently refrained from responding.

The Iranian Resistance once again underscores that by disseminating such lies, the Government of Iraq and Martin Kobler are paving the way for the fourth massacre of the residents. The Iranian Resistance urges the US Embassy and the UNHCR to immediately send delegations to Liberty in order to witness realities on the ground with appropriate time and to report their observations in order to remove the grounds for another human tragedy.
